You can learn to prepare taxes and make a difference in your community at the same time. Volunteer to help your community by preparing taxes free of charge with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offered by Forsyth Free Tax. You can still volunteer even if you don't want to prepare tax returns. Our Volunteers assist in a variety of roles:
- Tax Preparers receive extensive online training and must pass IRS certification exams. Volunteers must have access to the internet and an email address. We ask that tax preparers plan to work at least two four-hour shifts per week during tax season.
- Greeters/Receptionists greet clients, organize & scan documents, and assist clients before and after they meet with preparers. One three-hour training session is required and most volunteers work one 3-4 hour shift per week during tax season.
- Appointment Schedulers handle our appointment phone line, schedule appointments and provide general information to clients over the phone. One two-hour training session is required, as well as one 3-4-hour shift.
